Famous Classic Car Models

Classic cars have an iconic cool all of their own, and can turn a spin down the local highway into an adventure replete with style and charm. Here are five of the coolest classic car models in existence.

Jaguar E-type

1. 1961 Jaguar E-Type

This vehicle oozes British class, and has been impressing drivers everywhere since 1961. The car has competed in sporting events, with Bob Jane winning the 1963 Australian GT Championship at the wheel of a lightweight E-Type Jaguar. Enzo Ferrari called the E-Type, “the most beautiful car ever made.” This iconic car is also one of only six automobiles to feature at the New York City Museum of Modern Art’s permanent design collection.

2. 1964 Aston Martin DB5

When it comes to effortless style and cool, this car is at the top of the tree. After all, it is the vehicle of choice for 007 himself, James Bond. This iconic vehicle, named after David Brown, the head of Aston Martin at the time, first appeared in 1964, which is also when it was first seen by cinema goers in the Bond film ‘Goldfinger’. Some people may be lucky enough to own one of the 123 convertible DB5s, produced between 1963 and 1965. Only 19 of these were left-hand drive.

3. 1957 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing

This fine piece of high-quality German engineering is particularly known for the striking design of its doors. The car was built by Daimler Benz AG. Introduced in 1954, it was the fastest road car available at that time. Specifically targeted at the American market, the car was first seen by the world at the 1954 New York Auto Show, rather than at an event in Europe.

4. 1969 Boss 429 Mustang

Mustangs have an unmistakeable American cool in just about every aspect of their design, but this 1969 version is an absolute cracker. The body design of the standard Mustang had to be adapted to accommodate this model’s even larger engine. There were only 859 Boss 429s ever made, making it one of the coolest muscle cars in existence.

5. 1963 Corvette Sting Ray

This was the car which put all previous Sting Rays in the shade, and that is really saying something. Lighter, faster and with better handling than its predecessors, its design would be tweaked and toyed with over the succeeding years, but this original version has a special charisma all of its own.
